The Crazy Carnival Festival in Brazil

Rio Carnival, so colourful!

Carnival in Brazil is the annual carnival which takes place forty six days prior to Easter. It was originally intended to use up all the things that Christians tended to give up for Lent, such as meat.  Participation, rhythm and dress differ from region to region.

In the southern side of Brazil, big arranged parades are allowed by organised by samba schools. The northeastern regions of Brazil have organized teams parading through streets and people are able to talk freely with them.

This festival is influenced by African-Brazilian culture. It is held for six days, during which the streets come alive with people singing and dancing. The genres of brazilian carnival music are the samba-enredo, samba de embalo, samba de bloco and the marchinha.

Carnival is a well known holiday in the city of Brazil and has become a huge tourist attraction. Many places close for the duration of Carnival, especially in Coastal areas, so make sure you are well stocked up on anything you might need before it begins!
