Four Unconventional Holiday Ideas

Over the years, people tend to fall into patterns when choosing where to go on holiday. Those who head to the south of France, for example, sometimes keep returning or travelling to similar locations. One way to make holidays more exciting is to go on a more unconventional holiday every now. So if you would like a change from the more traditional package holidays on offer at most travel agents, here are a few ideas to consider for those who do not want to become bored of standard holidays.

Extreme sports

While this is not an option that will appeal to all, some people find mountain climbing to be incredibly relaxing and refreshing. Those who have always been attracted to surfing but who have never learned how to surf may find a trip to Hawaii, Florida or Australia to provide a memorable holiday. The holiday does not have to centre around extreme sports; a day spent bungee jumping, for example, can be a great way to spice up a more conventional holiday. Some people find relaxation to be the best way to spend a holiday, but others might prefer getting their adrenaline flowing a bit.

Second-tier cities

One of the problems of travelling to top holiday destinations is cost. Rome, Venice and Florence are wonderful cities to visit, but the number of tourists who come drive prices up considerably. By travelling to Turin, for example, travellers can save a considerable amount of money while still getting to experience a world-class city in terms of food, art, architecture and culture. The same holds true elsewhere; travellers often spend extra money to holiday in Seattle or San Francisco. Choosing Pittsburgh or Minneapolis, however, can lead to substantial savings and similar experiences. There are hidden gems spread throughout the world, and taking a 10-day holiday to one of them instead of a seven-day holiday to a more popular destination can lead to a fun, memorable time for all.

Unconventional goals

Instead of focusing on the staple destinations of holidays, such as beaches, big cities and museums, those going on holiday can consider having to unusual destinations. A tour of haunted locations in the American Northeast, for example, can be tremendously exciting. A tour of East Germany may lead to insight that cannot be gleaned in any museum. Whatever you and your family are looking for in a vacation, there is likely an unconventional way to achieve it. By focusing on unusual ways of achieving the goal, it may be possible to schedule a vacation that will lead to memories that will last a lifetime.

Randomised travel

Instead of spending hours narrowing down possible holiday destinations, another option to consider is choosing randomly from a list of 10 or so vacation destinations. By choosing places you and your family have never visited before and that most people do not think of when they think about holidays, you could prepare for a truly unconventional holiday. Some of the best holidays are random ones, and over-planning a holiday can make it a bit boring. Instead of making decisions as a committee, consider make them using a bit of randomisation.

Holidays are essential for maintaining mental health, but some people have trouble thinking of unusual holiday ideas. By focusing on making your vacation different than normal vacations, you can prepare yourself to form memories that will last a lifetime.
